| The
Ares Yacht Club is a non profit-making organisation that was officially registered
on the 30th of April 1986, although its activity really began the previous year
as a sailing school. Since then, this Club has progressively grown and evolved
both in the practice and promotion of the sport of sailing through the organisation
of a wide range of activities and events in all the various modalities. |
| One fact
that stands out is that with limited resources this Club has been an example to
other Galician yacht clubs, given the popularity that its sporting activities
have had with sailors from all over Galicia and North Portugal. |

The regattas started
out in 1986 with the "MULTICLASS
REGATA" in the Optimist class, which in future editions grew to include other
dinghy classes such as Cadet, Vaurien, Windsurfer, Europa, Laser and Snipe, and
is renowned by the Galician Sailing Federation as the oldest multiclass regatta
en Galicia. Subsequently in 1993, the keelboat regatta known as the "General
Gabeiras", already acknowledged as a classic event within the regional calendar,
was also started. |
|
In March 2003, the Ares Yacht Club was awarded by "Portos
de Galicia" (Ports of Galicia Public Authority) the management contract of
the new marina facilities in the Port of Ares. This was of culminating significance
given that thanks to this the Ares Yacht Club now has all the equipment, facilities
and services needed to practice and organise all types of watersports activities
and events of all levels. |
|
The quality of the services provided and its good work regarding
the organisation of sporting events was acknowledged the world over when the Ares
Yacht Club was awarded the "5th Annual Hempel Paints Prize for Quality and
Service in Watersports 2004". |
|
| In
2010 the Ares Yacht Club celebrated its 25th anniversary in a culminating moment
as it was awarded the "Blue
Flag", it being the only yacht club to have such a distinction in the
Ferrolterra borough. In 2011 the Ares Yacht Club is again awarded the Blue Flag.
Also,
in 2011 the Ares Yacht Club achieved the prestigious hallmark of the "Q
for Quality in Tourism" awarded by the Spanish Institute for Quality
in Tourism (ICTE), who appreciated the quality and professionalism of the services
provided and the quality systems implemented for the better management of facilities.
